Meet Lindsey: A Lifter in Pain

Lindsey, a 24 year old female, came to BAR Physical Therapy after hurting her back during a deadlift at a lifting event (name changed for privacy and HIPAA). She was trying to lift 245 pounds when she felt a "pop" on the left side of her lower back. Right away, she knew something was wrong.

She described her pain as 9 out of 10 and called it a "career-ending injury." Lindsey believed she might never lift or work out again.

What She Tried Before Coming to Us

Before she found our clinic, Lindsey tried almost everything:

  • Chiropractic care

  • Traditional physical therapy

  • Multiple visits to a medical doctor

  • A cortisone shot

  • An epidural injection

Unfortunately, nothing gave her lasting relief. Lindsey was frustrated and she had already spent a lot of money out of pocket because of high insurance costs. She was even paying over a $100 copay per session (3x a week we might add) at another clinic where she barely saw her physical therapist.

Then, a personal trainer who had also been treated at BAR Physical Therapy in the past referred her to us. There she saw one of our physical therapists, Wesley Desrosier.

Her First Visit at BAR Physical Therapy

When Lindsey came in, we took the time to really listen to her story and assess what was going on. Here’s what we found:

  • Pain when bending forward, twisting, and leaning back

  • Tenderness and pain when pressing on her lumbar spine, L2-5 centrally and on the L side

  • Positive signs of the lumbar prone instability test.

These signs showed that her spine needed better support and movement control, not just rest or passive treatments.

How We Treated Her Pain

At BAR Physical Therapy, we focus on personalized care. Lindsey’s treatment plan included:

Hands-On Manual Therapy

We used hands-on techniques to help reduce her pain and improve mobility.

Dry Needling

This helped release tight muscles and calm down irritated nerves.

Targeted Exercises

We gave her simple but effective exercises that addressed her exact issues:

As she got stronger and more confident, we moved her into more challenging and functional movements:

Her Results: Pain-Free in 3 Sessions

Lindsey felt pain-free after just 3 sessions. After 5 visits, she was deadlifting and squatting again… something she thought she’d never do.

She’s now back in the gym and feeling strong. Even better, she continues to come in for monthly maintenance sessions to stay ahead of any future issues and injuries.
